ROCHFORD Hundred member Jo Rumsey was the top qualifier as she was again crowned Essex Ladies Senior champion at Braintree Golf Club.

She was joined by club-mates Maria Williams, eligible to play in the seniors for the first time, and Janice Hazledine.

Williams qualified but Hazledine lost out on countback.

Rumsey and Williams won their first round matches and played each other in the semi-final, which Rumsey won 2&1.

Williams caddied for her club-mate in the afternoon and helped Rumsey become the Essex Ladies Senior champion for the fourth year running.

Last year Rumsey had successfully defended her crown by beating Hazledine in the final.

Carol Evans won Rochford Hundred's Joan Parr Trophy with 36 points. Angela Davenport was second with 33 points on countback from Amanda Colgate-Herbert.

Past ladies captain Beryl Claxton won the Nicholas Trophy on countback from Sally Smith with 35 stableford points.

Roy Dalton won the men's summer weekly Scott Spencer stableford with 39 points from Alan McEwen on 37 points.

The Sunday Medal results meant that the SSS was increased to 72 and the runaway winner of Division One was David Beale (4) with a score of nett 70 from Richard Skinner (3) with a nett 80

Division two was won by Kim Skinner (8) with a nett 70 closely followed by Andrew Pennington (7) with nett 71

Division Three was a victory for Thomas Spall (14) nett 67 from new member Mark Gibbons (19) with a nett 69.

Rochford host Stoke by Nayland in the third round of the Essex Golf Union's Thornton Cup on Sunday.

Most golfers have to contend with balls ending up in water hazards around the course.

So spare a thought for Rochford Hundred member Ivor Finer, who lost his remote control trolley in the brook the Hall Lane club.

"Everybody cheered when this happened last week," joked Finer.

"It was a great relief to members seeing the pesky remote controlled trolley complete a successful half twist in pike position end up in the brook on the 14th."

The club is now running a caption competition with a first prize of nine holes with Finer and the second prize 18 holes!
