JUST TWO years ago Mark Hooper was playing golf alongside newly crowned Olympic champion Justin Rose at the PGA Championships – but he is now getting his sporting kicks elsewhere.

The 32-year-old, from Rayleigh, started his own GoSporting company late last year.

And he is already relishing his new role away from the fairways.

“I stopped playing late July and had this idea for a business which I wanted to follow through with,” said Hooper.

“I gave up because the battle of getting sponsorship was hard and it was expensive to keep up, especially with having a family.

“I had a lot of success at times and the PGA Championships was the best moment for me.

“Getting to play alongside Justin Rose was a dream but I don’t miss it to be honest.

“At times when the weather’s nice I think it would be nice to be out there playing again.

“But I’m happy doing what I’m doing and my golfing background has helped me make it a success.”

Hooper’s new business – which is based in Rayleigh – provides sporting experiences for its clients as well as hospitality opportunities for sought after events.

And Hooper – a former FitzWimarc School pupil – has been pleased with the progress his company has made in the first few months.

“It’s been a good opportunity for me and I’m delighted with how it’s gone so far,” said Hooper.

“We supply days out for sporting activities and also hospitality tickets for events like Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, the cricket and motor racing.

“It was through playing golf that I had an idea of providing a website where people can do these activities with their families or companies can find ways to entertain their clients and staff.

“It’s enjoyable to be a part of and I’m sure it will continue to grow.”
