GARON Park Golf Club welcomed 24 members to celebrate their golfing exploits at an Octogenarian Luncheon.

Members of staff, the club president, chairman and captains were in attendance along with Master PGA Professional and proprietor Alan Walker as the Southend-based golf club toasted to the long-term membership of its golfers.

A whiskey glass, which was engraved with ‘Octogenarian Club’, was handed to each member at the luncheon.

Ken Horsfall, Garon Park’s oldest Octogenarian member, was just one of those who received the momento.

Garon Park boasts 30 members who are 80 years or older and still playing golf on a regular basis.

The members often enjoy a round on the golf club’s par three course, while others play nine holes or even the full 18-hole course.

Walker praised the Octogenarian members and was impressed by the celebratory event at Garon Park.

The Master PGA Professional said: “It was a fantastic occasion for us to have nearly all of our Octogenarian members with us at one time.

“There was an incredible atmosphere in the room at the luncheon.

“We believe that there is no other club in the country with 30 Octogenarian golfers in its membership all still playing.”

The golfers shared stories of their successes in the sport and toasted absent friends.
