EVEN the tail end of Storm Doris could not stop a strong field of players from competing in the annual St David’s Day competition at Thorpe Hall Golf Club.
The first mixed competition of the year, which was played in the greensome foursomes format, was won by the impressive Mike and Moira McHale.
The duo won on countback, pipping Derek and Irene Palmer to the post, with both teams finishing on a fantastic total of 40 points.
As a result, the Palmers had to settle for second place at the Southend-based golf club.
Nigel and Carol Franklin also performed admirably to take third place in the keenly-contested competition.
The Franklins amassed 39 points.
