Hall buzzing after recent successes

THE club was was buzzing after the results of the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy and the Essex Amateur Open and the men's Stableford on Saturday was well attended.

Division one was won by Martyn Hutchings, with 41 points off 12 handicap, and he has been reduced to 11.

Second was David Peters, a member of the next day's Thornton Cup Team, with 39 points off one.

Division two was won by Ken Coatalen, with 41 points off 14, from George Pudney, with 38 points off 15.

They have both had their handicaps reduced to 13 and 14 respectively. On Sunday, the Thornton Cup team and their supporters set off for Five Lakes to hopefully defeat what they knew was a strong side.

At Thorpe, Mickey Davis, as he often does, scored a net 69 in division one of the Monthly medal to win off 11 and get his handicap cut to 10.

Second on countback with Peter Fisher (10) was Nickey Rochfort (8), both with net 70.

In Division two, Neil Fitzgerald won with an excellent net 66, off 20, from Alan Malcolm (68). The winnerl was cut to 19 .

Sadly, Thorpe's Thornton Cup team lost their match by the narrowest of margins.

On a difficult course with slow greens, after being only 3-2 down in the morning foursomes, they lost the singles by 5.5-4 .5 and the match — a very courageous effort.
