A SUPERB closing round of 68 enabled Shoebury golf professional Richard McEvoy to cash in with a big cheque in India.

In his latest appearance on the full European Tour, at the Avantha Masters at the DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi, Thorpe Hall tournament professional McEvoy finished 26th.

His four round total of 282 earned him 14,475 euros and saw him climb to 99th in the Tour’s “Race to Dubai” rankings with winnings of 25,475 euros after playing in five events so far this term.

After opening with a one over par 73, former Walker Cup amateur international McEvoy, 30, shot a four under 68.

He fell back with another 73 in round three, but recovered with that closing 68 yesterday for his overall six under total.

Victory in the 1.5m euros event went to Australia’s Andrew Dodt, who finished eight strokes ahead of McEvoy on 14 under.

After a short break the European Tour resumes with the Maybank Malaysian Open, with 2million euros on offer, in Kuala Lumpur early next month.
