CHRISTMAS came late at the Ballards Gore Club when they staged their seasonal classic - in February.
December’s snowy weather rulked out the original date and the event was re-named the Pairs Classic and it was worth the wait with some great prizes on offer.
The competition was a pairs betterball with Jack Baldry and Josh McAlpine winning Saturday’s competition with 45 points.
Brian and Kevin McDowell came second on countback on the back nine, beating Andrew Marshall and Kevin Scanlan.
Sunday’s competition was won by Keith and Dean Layen with 45 points.
The runners-up were Peter Simpson and Mick Robinson, who beat Richard Capps and Dave Whiteford with 44 points on countback on the last six.
The first monthly medal of the year was played where some great scores were returned.
Saturday's division one was won by Dennis Cruse with 38 points. Adam Willis was runner-up on 36.
Division two winner was Danny Pond with 39. Collin Langstone was second with 36.
Sunday’s competition saw four members in division one return scores of 39 points. Aaron Gregory won on countback and second was Duncan Johnson.
Third place went to Freddie Lawrence and fourth spot to John Thornley.
Division two was won by Phil Young with 43 points. Keith Wallis and James Brooks both had 38 with the former taking the runners-up spot on countback.
Matt Capps, 17, has been selected as one of eight elite Essex youngsters to go the Algarve in March for some warm weather training. Fellow members and friends wish him every success for the future.
