THE February midweek medal produced the tightest of finishes on a rare pleasant day as Frank Howroyd (12), David Buddle (22), Jim Dennis (19) and Brian Tomassi (18) all hit impressive net 66s.
It was the narrowest of margins on countback that split the winners with Howroyd first, Buddle second and Dennis third.
In Saturday’s competition single bogey, in frosty conditions, Trevor Innard returned an impressive plus three score to take the first prize — two shots clear of Alan Elliott (13) who was also under par with plus one. Martin Kett (17) was next when he returned a steady minus one.
Mick Edmunds won a keenly-contested bogey competition on Sunday with a plus one score as the four handicapper’s back nine helped him take first prize on countback from Tony Hayes (19) and Ray Beadell (17), who were second and third respectively with the same scores.
In the Mail on Sunday competition at Garon Park, Belfairs were defeated by the narrowest of margins in a keenly contested match that was in the balance to the finish and played in fine sportsmanship.
The two victories on the day for Belfairs were Ray Hallett and Andrew Meddle, while Matt Mahoney, Dave Gribbon and Mick Edmunds fell to narrow defeats.
