THE new town club played their March Stableford medal at the weekend with John Wilson(17) winning with a fantastic 40 points.
Even so, he only beat 18-handicapper Jim Carr on countback with a better back nine.
Third place went to Pete Richens (15) with 39.
Basildon's Mail on Sunday Classic team of five faced a tough draw at Boyce Hill, having lost to the South Benfleet-based club a year ago in the same competition.
Basildon’s team comprised Stuart Michaelson, Sean Truman, Gordon Longmuir, Glen Eastman and James Dennison.
After nine holes Basildon were up in two matches with the other three matches being halved.
Michaelson and Dennison were convincing winners by 4 and 3, and 5 and 3 respectively.
Truman lost on the last and, with Longmuir going down 4 and 3, it was left to Eastman to win his match on the par three last for a two up success to see Basildon home to a great 3-2 victory.
