NEW captain Terry Morrell donned dodgy medallion and flat hat to make quite an entrance at his driving in.

Clutching gaudy cocktail, mobile phone and cigar he stepped out of the world famous yellow Trotter’s Independent Trading three-wheeler in the club car park.

As the smoke-belching Reliant halted Morrell – dressed as Del Boy – swaggered over to cheering club mates for his big day.

Morrell was asked to drive-in, which he did – but smacked a trick ball – finally striking a real ball to really get his captain’s year underway.

Prior to his arrival members of the club had played a nine hole Stableford competition, and taken part in other competitions to raise money for Little Havens, this season’s captain’s charity.

The winner of the competiton for the front nine was Steve Frost with 22 points. He beat Fred Brunel on countback.

The ladies section was won by Cathy Sheppard, with Chris Ralph in second place.

Cadet section success went to Daniel Frost, from Luke Gosling.

On the back nine Terry Asso won with 22 points with Rod Smith a close second with 21.

The ladies competiton was won by Hazel Hastings Anne Roberts came second.

Flynn Dunmore scored an amazing 24 points to win the cadet section with Harrison Berry bagging the second slot.

The prize for guessing the new captain’s special attire went to Kathy Walsh.

And Penny Paton correctly identified the yardage of the captain’s first shot.

l The Ballards Gore Ladies section also had a great win in the third round of the Mail on Sunday Competition on Saturday by 3½ to 1½.

The home match against Five Lakes had caused the Ballards Ladies some concern – when they discovered the opposition had much lower handicaps.

Beryl Bennett had a particularly difficult challenge when she realised she was playing an 8 handicap to her 20 handicap.

Although there is a shot allowance this can still be a daunting experience.

However, Bennett rose to the challenge and dug out a draw to win half a point.

>The club ladies played a stableford non-qualifier on Tuesday in glorious spring weather and it was won by Joan Parkes with 38 points. Gill Hawkins was a close second with 37 points.
