SMALL fields have been the order of the day for the competitions at Rochford.

Just 10 competitors braved the bad weather and took part in the midweek Scott Spencer tournament.

Seven handicapper Lee Carter emerged victorious with an excellent 36 points in the prevailing conditions.

Carter’s scorecard contained 11 pars to go with a birdie enabling him to pip Thornton cup captain Paul Birrell on countback.

Birrell struck an eagle on the par five sixth along with three birdies in a fine display, and only bogeys on his final two holes denied him victory.

Tony Rosen was three points behind in third as only four players managed to break 30 points.

The ladies bronze team, made up of Sue Alexander, Pat Last, Pam Meredith, Elaine Tucker, Wendy Wilcock, Pat Lowndes, Lorraine Norris had an emphatic 7-0 victory over Lords.

That was preceded by the Australian spoons foursomes competition, which is a national EWGA competition for pairs with a handicap of 21 and over.

This competition was won by Kay Campbell-Carr and Carol Johnson with 35 points.

The Youth shield team went away to Castle point and eased to a 5-0 victory.

After Mitchel Sarling enjoyed a comfortable victory first out, Paige Kemp earned herself a point by 2&1 followed by Conor Rogers winning on the 18th hole.

Connor Morris and Craig Eaton were the other players to contribute points in an excellent away win.
