Williams wins as Currie hosts captain's day

ROCHFORD Hundred ladies captain Joyce Currie hosted her captain’s day.

Maria Williams, with an excellent nett 72, lifted the captain’s prize and the Latham Cup.

Jo Rumsey with a nett 74 edged second place on countback from Rosemary Gemmell.

The divisional scratch winners were Amanda Colgate Herbert in the silver division (scoring 78) followed – in the bronze division – by Terri Stanley with a 95.

The weekly Scott Spencer Stableford saw the top four all gain handicap reductions.

Jake Wells amassed 42 points in his victory which earned a two shot cut to a new handicap of six.

However, it was not all plain sailing for Wells as he suffered a double and triple bogey in the opening four holes.

Wells responded in superb fashion though as he posted eight pars and four birdies on his way to a two point win.

Jack Day secured second spot courtesy of a strong finish where he managed to birdie three of the last five holes.

Day also managed six pars along the way and like Wells, gained a two shot handicap cut to 10.

The very consistent Mitchel Sarling will now be playing off scratch after another solid display.

Sarling scored a brace of both birdies and bogeys on his front nine.

And then showed his class with a blemish free back nine of two under scoring a total 39 points.
