RON Drake’s spectacular hole-in-one on the eighth hole was one of the highlights of Captain’s Week at Lords.

The week got off to a great start with the ladies Stableford, which saw Kerry Elliott taking the prize with 33 points, ahead of Nicky Lee and Linda Cosgrove, who both came in with 32 points.

In the five-day seniors’ match, Graham Timms beat Ernie Porter.

And on the Earls course, Colin Rickards took the men’s prize, while Hazel Sargent won the ladies section and also took the nearest the pin prize.

Drake, with his hole in one, won the nearest the pin for the men and, playing in the Yard of String competition, Jack Nicholls came out on top as he beat Kevin Tibble.

Darren Lee and Andy Rayner took nearest the pins prize on day five.

The finale of the week was the Captain’s Cup, which saw nearly 100 members taking part in a shotgun start.

Nick Williams won the coveted prize as he came in with 43 points ahead of Paul Smith, who had 42.

Jenny Harries won it for the ladies when she came in with 38 points to beat Ashlee Tyrrell on 36. Pat Smith and Keith Goddard won nearest the pins.

An excellent £1,000 was taken in raffles and will be donated to the Clowns in the Sky chairty, which is dedicated to the research and treatment of childhood brain tumours.

On day one in the August medal competition, Dave Tyrrell (12) won in style as he took the division one title with an impressive nett 66.

His closest rival Clive Davies (9) came in with a nett 71.

In division two, John Cosgrove (25) had a nett 71 as he beat Steve Jones (18), who had a nett 73. On the second day, Kevin Andrews (nine) took the division one title with a nett 70, ahead of Bob Dowsett (13), who finished with a nett 71. The division two prize went to Lawrie Page (16) who came in with a nett 70.

Stephen Kirby (15) was in second place with a nett 73.

Extra medal and Stableford competitions, were won by Mohamed Haji (nett 71) and Craig Southern (35 points), respectively.

In the mid-week medal, Graham Tims (19) took the prize coming in with nett 68 to beat Jon Vigors (13), who had a nett 70.

And in the the ladies medal, Nicky Topley (nine) took the prize when she beat Lucy Hensby (24) on countback, when both came in with nett 78.

Linda Lincoln (27) was third with a nett 80.
