Nesbitt enjoys medal joy

ROCHFORD Hundred held their qualifier for the Hodsdon Peace knock-out cup in vastly differing conditions over the weekend.

Eight qualified from Saturday and eight from Sunday, but it was the first day players who found the strong wind very tough with a net 76 getting through compared to net 72 the following day.

Rob Moss notched five pars and four birdies to lead the way on Saturday and offset a couple of double bogeys for 78-6=72.

He was followed home by Dick Clarke (81-8=73) and Eamonn Flynn (86-13=73).

Clarke shot seven pars and a couple of birdies while Flynn carded six pars plus a birdie.

Others to get through were Lindsay Cunningham (86-12=74), David Bolan (85-10=75), Paul Bullock (87-12=75), Tom Nicol (89-13=76) and John Mellor (94-18=76).

Ian Walden was the star among Sunday's contingent parring five holes and notching two birdies in a superb 81-16=65 which saw his handicap down to 14.

Roy Nesbitt (79-9=70) and Ray Weidner (75-5=70) followed him into the KO stage.

Nesbitt enjoyed 12 pars - eight on the back nine - while Weidner had 13 pars and a birdie.

The other five to qualify were James Barker (86-16=70), Richard Meakin (91-21=70), Dai Young (81-10=71), Talat Buta (76-4=72) and Ben Franklin (77-5=72).

Sunday's competition also doubled up as the April medal and Nesbitt won division one ahead of Weidner.

Walden took division two honours in front of Barker while division three went to Meakin from Paul Pentecost (97-20=77).
