BOYCE Hill had 36 pairs enter their Kindred Club Shield qualifier last Sunday and the four pairs to go through returned excellent scores.
They were led by Dave Pack (20) and Roy Packman (18) with 45 points followed by Lennie Sinfield (10) and Bill Murphy (13) with 41 points.
Three pairs returned 39 points with Ian Irving (12) and Bernie Barham (9) edging out Gary Woods (17) and Dave Smith on countback for third.
Unlucky Len Crickmar (11) and John Shade's (13) 39 points left them as first reserves in the competition to be played at Thorpe Hall next month.
Boyce's Norman Plum Trophy team progressed to the quarter-finals of this new county competition.
In a very close match, they won by 222 points to 220 in a very close match with Colne Valley.
With three pairs from each club playing at home and three away in a better ball Stableford format for category three and four players, Boyce's in-form pairing of John Shade and Gary Bromage returned with 42 points against their opponents' 33.
This proved decisive at the end as team manager.
Tom Arundel emphasised when he said: " I am proud of my team's performance in what was an exciting match, especially the three pairs who played away and were only 11 points down overall.
"This showed just how valuable John and Gary's score was for the whole team".
