Lakeside hit by Shields injury
LAKESIDE Hammers have been rocked by the news that skipper Adam Shields has sustained a dislocated shoulder while racing in Sweden.
The Hammers captain was injured in a crash on Tuesday during his final scheduled ride while racing for his Swedish side Rospiggarna.
His team were competing at Indianerna in Sweden's top league and Australian Shields had already been instrumental in helping his side move into a match-winning position.
He had scored 11 points from his four rides, but took a fall in his final outing, although Rospiggarna went on to win the match by just two points.
Shields is back in England but, at this stage, it is uncertain whether he will be fit enough to take his place in the Lakeside team for their Elite League matches at Coventry on Monday and Swindon next Thursday.
The Hammers do not race at home until Friday, May 16, when Eastbourne will be the visitors.
