Paris St Germain boss Unai Emery praised his side’s response to their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid in midweek.

The Ligue 1 leaders were beaten 3-1 at the Bernabeu in Wednesday in the last-16 first leg, but responded with a 5-2 domestic success over Strasbourg.

Goals from Julian Draxler, Neymar, Angel Di Maria and an Edison Cavani double saw PSG come from behind and maintain their 100 per cent home record in the league.

They restored their 12-point lead at the summit and Emery believes the win sets his side up for the return leg against Madrid and forthcoming Coupe de France quarter-final with Marseille.

“Victory was important after Wednesday’s game,” Emery said in his post-match press conference, reported by L’Equipe.

“Little by little, we must put our supporters in condition for the matches that will come against Marseille and Real Madrid.

“We have to show that we are able to maintain this level of play against the biggest teams, with all the respect I have for the people of Strasbourg.

“We talked about it in the locker room. Of course, they remember Wednesday’s match. It’s normal.

“It is therefore important to talk about positive things. We feel very strong at the Parc.  We must maintain this dynamic.”

Emery’s team came into the match having won all 12 of their home league matches this season and have not lost at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 since March 2016, but they fell behind after Jean-Eudes Aholou fired Strasbourg into a shock sixth-minute lead.

But Draxler, Neymar and Di Maria all found the back of the net in 13 first-half minutes to fire PSG into a 3-1 half-time lead before Stephane Bahoken struck in the 67th minute to reduce the deficit.

Cavani’s deft finish restored PSG’s two-goal cushion before the Uruguayan lobbed Alexandre Oukidja to break another club record with his 86th home goal, surpassing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s previous tally.
