MAX Whitlock has helped Great Britain to bronze medal in the Olympic artistic gymnastics competition.

GB were in line for a silver medal until an appeal by Japan upheld by the judges to move them up to second place.

It meant Britain equalled the bronze medal the team won in 1912 in front of a partisan crowd at the North Greenwich Arena.

Whitlock is a member of South Essex Gym Club and trains at Basildon Sporting Village.

Whitlock and his team-mates Louis Smith, Daniel Purvis, Kristian Thomas and Sam Oldham overhauled Ukraine and Japan on their final floor routine to take second place behind China.

But the subsequent appeal meant the the Brits slipped down a place to third, with Ukraine slipping out of the medals.

WELL DONE our mens gymanstics team - what an achievement to have been able to have kept your cool and win a medal.
I hope the Ukraine team puts in an appeal so you get your silver back.
