ELEVEN members of the Thundersley-based Stock Shotokan Karate Club competed at the seventh Winter Open Karate Championships held at the Deanes Sport Centre.

It was the first time the club had entered a mixed style event for 20 years.

And they enjoyed great success with sensei Adam Purkiss taking first place and the trophy for the Male Veterans Kata event.

Sensei Jason Sanchez took first place in the over-18s male kumite and also won a bronze in the over 18s kata category.

Lisa Ironman collected a silver medal in the ladies kumite (fighting) and a bronze in the ladies kata. Seventeen-year-old Louise Hardy also did extremely well to get a bronze in her age group for ladies kumite as she dislocated her shoulder just two weeks earlier.

Samuel Campbell, 16, won bronze in the boys kumite and also came fourth in the boys kata.

But just missing out on a medal was Daniel Colby in his first competition as he came fourth in the boys’ 11-14 years kumite. Bethany King, Kiera Pipe, Amelia Skarott, Harry Russell and Lee Brittney also performed. For more details contact Ann on 01702 557874 or visit www.stockskc.co.uk
