BRINN Bevan is keen to follow in the footsteps of the latest young British gymnastics star, Nile Wilson, by making a successful transition in to the senior ranks.

Bevan enjoyed several titanic tussles with Wilson in junior championships.

Since then, Wilson has gone on to win four medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as well as finishing fourth in the team event and the horizontal bars in the World Championships earlier this month.

Bevan, meanwhile, has only been able to watch his rival’s progress as he has had to deal with the frustration of sustaining a back injury.

But the former Deanes School pupil is now back in full training and his coach, Scott Hann, has revealed Bevan is keen to shine.

“Brinn is back in training now, he’s a competitive character and he wants to do what Nile has done,” said Hann, who also coaches Max Whitlock.

“They had some great battles as juniors and you never knew who was going to win.

“I think Nile going on to do what he has has given Brinn more confidence that he can do the same and he’s also very inspired by Max’s achievements.

“Brinn’s actually been out for three months after suffering a stress fracture in his back but he’s back training now and I expect him to do well towards the latter stages of next season.

“I think he could well challenge for a place or to be reserve in the squad for the World Championships.”
