ROCHFORD Hockey Club’s winning run continued with a 4-0 win in a hard-fought game against Brentwood in the East Men’s League Division Eight South East.

The game was very evenly balanced in the opening quarter of the game with good chances coming for both sides, but as the half wore on, the Rochford midfield started to up the pressure on the Brentwood defence.

And the deadlock was finally broken 25 minutes into the game when a penalty stroke was awarded after a goal-bound shot by Chris Williams was stopped on the line by the foot of a Brentwood defender.

James Morgan held his nerve and calmly dispatched from the spot despite having to retake his initial penalty.

Brentwood could have been level minutes later had it not been for the heroics of Rochford goalkeeper Tony Revell who rushed out on the advancing forward which ended with both players hitting the floor.

Despite the protests of the Brentwood players for a penalty stroke of their own, only a short corner was given which was subsequently put wide.

After the let off, and with only minutes remaining in the first half, Rochford went on the attack again and following some good interplay between Chris Williams, Luke Smith, Rhys Durban and Andy Knight, another short corner was given.

This time Chris Williams got his reward and Rochford’s second goal by hammering the ball home into the bottom corner.

The second half started as end to end as the first but Rochford continued to press the opposition in their own half which lead to James Morgan getting his second of the game with a great strike into the corner.

The fourth goal came 15 minutes from the end from another short corner, this time put away by Luke Smith.

Despite a couple of injuries late on in the game which resulted in a change of formation, the defence held firm for its third clean sheet in row.

The player of the match went to Chris Williams.
