SOUTHEND & Benfleet firsts secured a fine away win to claim a 4-2 triumph at Brentwood seconds.

Having already beaten the same side 9-1 earlier in the season, S&B were confident of success in the return fixture and they started the match the brighter of the two teams.

But it was Brentwood that scored first after several top saves from the S&B keeper Lisa Hawkins, who was also celebrating her birthday, the ball fell to the Brentwood attacker and she made no mistake.

S&B hit back soon after, with Kirsty Edmunds impressing and, from a short corner Sarah Conway struck hard and fast, to capitalise on a rebound and equalise.

Looking stronger at the back, S&B pushed on and Edmunds took on the keeper to slip it past her and give S&B a 2-1 lead.

Ashlie Colman was not going to be out done, and before the end of the first half she snuck one past the Brentwood stopper as well, putting daylight between the sides at the interval.

Hawkins kept that advantage intact until Brentwood reduced arrears from a penalty flick.

But Naomi Barker scored from a short corner to make it 4-2.

Hawkins took the player-of-the-match award for an outstanding performance that keeps S&B second in the league.

l S&B seconds were also triumphant against Redbridge & Ilford seconds, claiming a 5-3 win thanks to a sterling performance from Hannah Daish.

The away side started on top and scored first before Daish netted her first of the afternoon.

Redbridge restored their advantage and were denied further opportunities by terrific defending from Rebecca Utton and keeper Carly Belcher, who had a busy game.

Jo Chesters levelled for S&B after good work by Daish before she put the home side in front for the first time after the break, slotting home after a fine pass from Anna Winfield.

Redbridge equalised before a period of sustained S&B pressure was rewarded by player-of-the-match Ali Riley, who scored off the post.

Daish finished the scoring with a fine solo goal late on to seal her treble.

l S&B thirds made it three wins from three with a 2-0 win at Witham thirds.

Aimee Cole scored both goals and was voted player-of-the-match.
