ROCHFORD Hockey Club continued their good run of form with a solid 4-1 win against Brentwood Academy.

Despite it being Brentwood’s Academy team they had a very experienced group of players and it was clear from the off that this was not going to be a repeat of the previous week’s goal fest for Rochford.

With a few juicy tackles coming in from both sides the umpires took action by showing all players a green card to try to calm things down.

With the focus back on playing hockey, Rochford started to put together some passes and in doing so put the Academy defence under pressure. This pressure paid off when the ball was played through to the in-form James Morgan in the D and he fired the ball home from a very tight angle.

The goal settled the Rochford players who were now in control and shortly afterwards the Academy midfield was stripped of the ball by player of the match Rhys Durban.

He found Morgan who then played a peach of a ball through to his strike partner Sam Lowe and he neatly slipped the ball under the onrushing keeper to make it 2-0.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first and again it was Rochford who were able to get into their rhythm playing the ball around the midfield and breaking with pace.

The third goal came from some individual brilliance from Durban who picked up a great ball from Danny Palmer on the edge of the area.

Durban then drove into the D and got an initial shot away which was saved before he reacted well to fire home the rebound.

At 3-0 it was looking comfortable for Rochford until Sam Lowe was sent to the sin bin when he received a yellow card for a stick tackle.

This gave the home side a lift and shortly afterwards they scored from a short corner that managed to squeeze through the defences of keeper Revell and Dave Dove who was on the line.

With Rochford back up to full strength they went back on the attack again and Matt Harwood-White played a great ball through to Danny Palmer who squared it to Morgan who tapped the ball home from a few yards out to complete the scoring.

The win kept Rochford three points clear at the top of the table.
