FORMER Southend United striker Neil Harris has been named Millwall’s caretaker manager for the remainder of the season.

The struggling Lions, who sit second from bottom in the Championship standings, parted company with Ian Holloway yesterday.

And Millwall chairman John Berylson has opted to put Harris in charge.

“Neil Harris has agreed to take over managerial duties for the remainder of the season,” confirmed Berylson.

“I am confident that Millwall fans will give him every support over the next couple of months as we strive to turn our current run of form around."

But Harris, who lives in Eastwood, will certainly have his work cut out to stop the Lions suffering relegation as they are currently eight points from safety.

Harris also enjoyed a short spell as caretaker manager, which included a 4-1 defeat in the FA Cup at Roots Hall, before Holloway’s appointment in January 2014.

Harris had been working with Millwall’s under 21 team and is a popular figure with the fans after scoring a record 138 goals during two separate spells playing for the club.
