SCOTT Stoney cannot wait to see his sister Casey go from playing football in a cul-de-sac in Wickford to the semi-finals of the World Cup tonight.

Scott, a postman, will be waiting up to hopefully see Casey start for England’s Women’s team in their final four clash against Japan.

But it was in south-east Essex where Casey first started to kick a ball.

“Casey would always join in playing football with us in our cul-de-sac in Wickford,” said Scott, who attended Runwell Primary School with his sister.

“It was when we moved to London and she started playing little league and got scouted by Chelsea I realised she was going to make a career of football.

“I’m very proud of her too. “I’ve travelled all over the world to watch her and I’ve seen so many places that I wouldn’t have seen if she hadn’t played for England.

“I’ve stayed up for all of the games this time too, which has meant one very tired postman!”

Scott attended Casey’s previous two World Cups in 2007 and 2011 and revealed his mum would fly out to Canada for the final if England can see off reigning champions Japan.

England have already beaten both Norway and hosts Canada in the knock-out stages to reach the semi-finals for the first time ever.

The match, which kicks off at midnight tonight, is being shown live on BBC One.

And Scott, who now lives in Surrey with his wife Gemma and baby boy Noah, believes there has never been so much interest in women’s football.

“I’ve really noticed the difference in the coverage the women’s game gets now,” said Scott, who turns 35 on Saturday.

“It just used to be a few watching, but now you get thousands.

“You could never even see the England game on television, let alone the league games, now you get them all. You can even have a flutter on the games if you want to and the World Cup is going to raise the profile of women’s football even more.”
