ROBIN Womack has spoken of his frustration at missing out on a place in Great Britain’s squad for the IPC World Championships in Doha next month.

The Southend-based shot-putter registered 13 qualifying marks throughout the season and is currently ranked seventh in the world.

But that was still not enough to earn the disgruntled Womack a call-up.

“I think the selectors have a made a mistake and it’s a bad decision not to pick me,” said Womack, 44.

“I’ve had most of my rivals contact me on Facebook to say they can’t believe I haven’t been selected as they see me as a dangerous opponent.

“I’m really gutted about it and it’s worse than when I didn’t make the Paralympic squad for Beijing back in 2008.

“But, having gone through that before, I’ll make sure I deal with it all far better.

“I won’t get into the dark places I got in back then and I’ve just got to get on with it now.

“I don’t agree with what they’ve done but there is nothing I can do about it other than making sure I keep performing well.”

Womack is therefore desperate to impress in what will now be his final outing of the season when he heads to Newham this weekend.

And he will not let the setback stop him attempting to make the Paralympic squad for Rio next year.

“I’m still aiming for Rio and I want to go out on a high by getting there and winning a medal,” said Womack, who won bronze at the London 2012 Games.

“I want to go out on Saturday and absolutely smash it to get even higher up the world rankings.

“That will put me in good stead for next season and that’s what I’m thinking about now.

“It’s tough to take but I’ll be doing all I can to make sure I’m not in this situation again next summer.”
