LOWER Thames Rowing Club enjoyed plenty of success at the Great River Race.
The event, which is described as a rowers’ marathon, starts at Limehouse Basin and finishes more than 20 miles later at the Ham, Richmond.
This year’s event saw 332 boats entered, five by the Lower Thames Rowing Club with 28 rowers.
They were successful in winning the fastest Thamesbased skiff category and are the only club to have held this on five occasions.
The crews overall had a great race with all doing well in their classes.
The men’s skiff crew of Tony Peck, Graham Biner, Andy Newnham, Nick Faux and William Peck completed the course in a time of 2h 47m 52s.
Before handicap this meant they were first Thames-based skiff on time after handicap applied, second oared boat on time after handicap applied, second Thames Based boat on time after handicap applied and third overall based on time after handicap applied The club has just been awarded a Sport England grant allowing the purchase of a further boat, a Celtic Longboat, which will allow it to compete in even more events locally and nationally.
