SOUTHEND High School for Boys made it 33 straight wins in a row at the borough cross-country championships.

The town’s two high schools were once again the dominant forces at Blenheim Park.

The High School for Girls won all five of the team prizes and the overall title, while the Boys School won four of the team prizes and the overall victory.

Eastwood Academy’s Year 7 boys squad were the only ones to break the High School monopoly as they topped the team standings.

Another noteworthy performance came from Chase High School who picked up the unofficial most improved team award for fielding teams in every age group apart from the Year 10/11 girls.

Three runners retained their borough titles from the previous year: Hannah Phipps (Southend High School for Girls SHSG) who won the Year 8 race, Joanna Rimmington (SHSG) who had the most impressive win of the day in the Year 10/11 girls race and Toby Wright (Shoebury) who won the Year 10/11 boys race.

Southend High School for Girls completed a clean sweep of individual wins thanks to victories from Scarlet Rolls (Year 7), Beth Ashley (Year 9) and Victoria Hiscock (Year 12/13).

On the boys side, the Eastwood Academy got individual wins in the Year 7 and 8 boys races.

George Hey triumphed in the Year 7 boys race and Max McDonald in the Year 8 contest.

Southend High School for Boys picked up two individual wins courtesy of Daniel Riley (Year 9 boys) and Harrison Smith (Year 12-13 boys).
