DIVING sensation Tyler Humphreys has been taking on the best British diving has to offer after he brought home a host of medals from the Irish National Championships.

The 12-year-old Southend Diving star did battle against Olympic, World and European medallist Tom Daley in Dublin, as well as former Southend Diving star Oliver Dingley, winning a total of three medals.

As Tyler, who attends Shoebury High School, dives at such an advanced level for his age he was entered alongside Daley and Dingley in the men’s age group, as well as competing in the junior completion.

On day one, Tyler produced a terrific performance on the three-metre spring board which saw him finish in fifth place in the men’s competition, and secure a bronze in the junior nationals, with the two who finished ahead of him 10 years his senior.

On the second day, Tyler took on the seniors in the men’s platform event, finishing an admirable fourth behind the winner Daley, although his performance was enough to secure a bronze medal in the junior event.

His only dive off the 10 metre board was a reverse 2.5 somersault, for which he scored eights from the judges.

On the final day, Tyler competed in the one-metre springboard event, where again he finished fifth but, with three seniors competing in the event, he walked away with a silver medal in the junior category.

And dad James said he couldn’t have been prouder of his son.

“It was an amazing event and just for Tyler to dive in the same group as Tom Daley and Oliver Dingley who are both 10 years older than him,” said James. “It is an amazing achievement but to also finish only three and four places behind them and finish ahead of divers five years older than him is incredible.”
