ROCHFORD put last week’s loss to the league leaders behind them with a fantastic 6-1 victory away to Saffron Walden VI.

The visitors went straight on the attack from the first whistle and created a number of good opportunities but were denied by the home team’s keeper.

The breakthrough came when Andy Knight slipped the ball through to Rhys Durban who squared the ball to James Morgan who fired the ball passed the stranded keeper.

Morgan quickly got a second after good work from Luke Smith and Will Early and then got his hat-trick just before half-time, with Durban again the provider.

Saffron Walden scored from a direct shot following a short corner after the re-start.

But hopes of a comeback were dashed when Rochford immediately went on the counter attack and scored following a short corner of their own.

Chris Williams beat the on rushing defender and drilled the ball to the back post where skipper Knight was waiting to chip the ball in over the keeper.

Rochford’s fifth came from a superb strike from Durban before Williams who saw his deflected shot hit the bar.

But the sixth goal did come when Morgan found Luke Smith who slipped the ball into the corner of the net.

This was a great team performance and player of the match was shared between Jay Mitchell, Charlie Wright and Andy Knight.
