WILL Stevens completed his first full season in Formula One in Abu Dhabi yesterday and now wants to secure his future for years to come.

The 24-year-old, who grew up in Hadleigh, finished 19th in the final race of the season, again getting the better of team-mate Roberto Mehri who was one place further back.

Stevens and his negotiating team are now looking to tie-up a long-term deal with Manor-Marussia before Christmas.

The former Thorpe Hall School pupil is convinced he has shown enough in his year with the team to earn a seat for next year, even admitting he is looking to agree a longer term deal than just another one-year contract.

The two Manor seats are the only two vacancies left in F1 for next year and have got more desirable since the team announced their cars would be powered by Mercedes engines next year.

“They are the last two seats left on the grid and we are pushing hard to be in one of them. Everything is moving in the right direction,” Stevens told Sky Sports F1.

“When you are fighting at the back of the field it is always hard to show people what you are made of and what you can bring to it. This year I really wanted to work on my one-lap pace and make sure my pace was always strong which it has been. Sometimes I probably haven’t focused enough on my race pace, but that is probably the biggest thing I’ve learnt throughout the year.

“Have I done enough? I like to think so, my pace has always been strong compared to both my team-mates and I think the team have been happy with the job I’ve done.”
