PREMIER LEAGUE

JAMES TOMKINS, WEST HAM UNITED: Tomkins returned to the West Ham team for their trip to Manchester United after being dropped for the previous week’s draw with West Brom. The Basildon boy was selected not at centre half but at right back as he took the place of Carl Jenkinson. The Hammers backline were solid throughout though as Slaven Bilic’s men earned a 0-0 draw.

CHAMPIONSHIP MICHAEL KIGHTLY, BURNLEY: Kightly was brought on for the final 13 minutes as the Clarets tried to chase an equaliser against near neighbours Preston. But the winger’s introduction could not turn the game around and Preston went on to get another and win 2-0.

DEAN MARNEY, BURNLEY: Marney was an unused substitute in their loss to Preston.

DOMINIC IORFA, WOLVES: Iorfa helped Wolves to a 2-1 win at struggling Rotherham, playing the full 90 minutes at right back.

JAKE FORSTER-CASKEY, BRIGHTON: Forster-Caskey was not involved in Brighton’s come-from-behind win over Charlton.

MORGAN FOX, CHARLTON: Fox and his fellow Addicks defenders were stunned as league leaders Brighton came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the Amex. The final two goals came in the closing 10 minutes.

DEAN GERKEN, IPSWICH: Gerken had an impressive night in front of the Sky cameras but still could not prevent the Tractor Boys from losing 2-0 to Middlesbrough. The Rayleigh shotstopper made a number of fine saves to keep his side in with a chance.

FA CUP BILLY KNOTT, BRADFORD: Knott helped the Bantams to a routine 4-0 win over non-league Chesham United in the FA Cup.

PAUL HAYES, WYCOMBE: Hayes netted the opening goal as the Chairboys stunned League One side Millwall at the New Den, winning 2-1 to make the third round.

PAUL BENSON, LUTON: Serving a ban so missed Luton’s 2-0 defeat to in-form League One side Peterborough.

RICKY HOLMES, NORTHAMPTON: Holmes came off the bench for the final 30 minutes for his first taste of first-team football since August and inspired an amazing Cobblers comeback. They looked to be heading out to the lowest-placed side left in the competition, Northwich Victoria, trailing 2-0 when Holmes came on. But the winger pulled the strings to orchestrate a stunning comeback that saw Northampton win 3-2.

JAI REASON, EASTLEIGH: Reason helped Conference National side Eastleigh into the third round for the first time in history as they won 2-0 at fellow non-leaguers Stourbridge.
