C&K BASILDON Ladies showed their battling qualities to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Coventry United on Sunday.

The Ladies, coming into the match off the back of a difficult run of results, had taken just one point from the last nine on offer in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division.

But they were worthy of the point that lifted them to seventh in the league and saw them keep their first clean sheet in two months.

After a cagey opening quarter, Coventry were the first team to register a shot on goal when a free-kick from 25 yards drifted wide of the post, with Basildon coming closer soon after from’s Amy nash’d free-kick.

Zoe Rushen shot over the bar, before another Nash free-kick found the head of new signing Katherine Huggins, recently signed from London Bees, but her flicked header went just wide of the post.

Karissa Rodney saw an effort tipped over the bar as the first-half fizzled out.

In the second-half, Rushen shot over before Coventry created the best chance of the game so far. A cross was sent in but the unmarked Dani Selmes could only head wide of the far post.

Rodney shot wide and Nicola Dunsden's flick cleared the bar but, neither team could force the all important breakthrough.

C&K Basildon: Rowlands, Stimson, Stephanou (Dunsden), Lacey, Porter, Little, Huggins, Rodney, Rushen, Mellors, Nash.
