RESPECTED coach Perry Agass wants the next generation of athletes to take the plunge and give triathlon a go.

The Thundersley coach works alongside world-renowned coach Brett Sutton as part of the TriSutto training camp, which is regarded as the world’s most successful triathlon coaching course.

Australian Sutton recently visited Canvey’s Waterside Farm in a bid to reach out to young athletes and help them secure a future in the sport.

And Agass, 37, who also trains a number of local athletes, said it was a productive session and encouraged aspiring athletes to get involved.

“It was a really good day,” he said. “There was a lot of interest and it was a way of showing people how we train professional athletes. We have had some great success stories and our message to young athletes is come and give it a go.”

Sutton has worked with Ironman world record holder Chrissie Wellington and is currently training World Ironman Champion Daniela Ryf and Olympic champion Nicola Spirig.

And Agass says he is the best man to help south Essex’s stars of tomorrow.

“We want to produce champions and great athletes of the future. Brett Sutton is one of the best, if not the best, triathlon coaches in the world. His success speaks for itself and he has mentored me as well.

“I have travelled Europe as an elite coach and we want to reach out to age groupers and amateur athletes who want to turn professional.

“It is an exciting chance to be part of something great.”
