JAY Chambers has gone from fan to fighter to feature in Zero Tolerance’s latest boxing night.

The Southend based 23-year-old watched on from the sidelines during the promotion’s previous fight night.

But next month Chambers will taking centre stage as he takes on Manchester’s Dylon Edwards at Zero 6 nightclub.

And Chambers cannot wait for the bout to begin.

“I’ve had watched a few friends who have fought on some of the shows in the past so I contacted the promoter myself and said I was eager to fight,” said Chambers.

“It’s a real buzz and I’m looking forward to getting in the ring already.

“I’m training six days a week and running four days a week so I’m feeling more confident all the time.

“I just want to get in there now.”

Chambers’ fight looks set to be one of many highlights on the show which takes place on Saturday April 23.

And the keen Southend United is fully focused on making sure he enters the fight in the best possible shape.

“I’ve always been interested in doing this but I’ve never had the motivation for it until now,” said Chambers.

“But I’m fully concentrated and I’m sticking to the training programme.

“I want to be fight ready and I won’t be training half-hearted because this is just the start for me now.”

Chambers’ will be fighting on promoter’s Giles Carter’s fourth fight night.

And Carter is expecting a night to remember.

“We’ve done a few boxing shows already but this is the biggest one we’ve done so far,” said Carter.

“We’re expecting another crowd of 500 fans and we’ve got a lot of local quality on the bill.”

That includes Chambers who Carter feels has a bright future in the sport.

“Every day Jay’s improving and my plan for him is to build him up, get him four or five wins and then try to get him a Southern Area Title shot,” said Carter.

“This is just the start for him.

“He’s got good spirit and he’s hungry which is what you want.

“He’s got a lovely fan-base of Southend United supporters and having them cheering him on will also do him the world of good.”
