C&K Basildon Ladies’ recent good run was brought to an abrupt end by Brighton & Hove Albion Ladies.

Albion won 6-1 in the Women’s Premier League Southern Division encounter at the Frost Financial Stadium, with Claire Lacey’s goal not enough against the league leaders.

It was Basildon’s first home league defeat since early November but Brighton showed their intent early on as they raced into a two-goal lead.

Charlotte Gurr was on target after six minutes, shooting past Molly Povey in the Basildon goal from just inside the penalty area.

But two minutes later Stacey Little had a chance to equalise when she intercepted a goal kick before advancing on goal, but shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.

Things looked bleak for Basildon when Brighton added a second goal on 10 minutes, when Natalie Taylor volleyed in a cross from Basildon's left hand side.

However, Basildon captain Claire Lacey quickly pulled a goal back for the home team as she powerfully headed Amy Nash's free kick into the net after 17 minutes.

But back came Brighton and they restored their two goal lead eight minutes later, when a free kick was allowed to travel across the face of goal and Deanna Cooper made no mistake at the far post.

Basildon almost pulled a goal back in bizarre circumstances when a back pass by a Brighton defender picked up pace as it was blown by the wind towards goal but the Brighton goalkeeper was just able to divert the ball out for a corner.

Deanna Cooper added her second goal and Brighton's fourth after 12 minutes into the second half, with Cooper advancing into the penalty area before hitting a low shot past Povey.

Jay Blackie scored Brighton's fifth goal when she picked the ball up from a short corner and forced Povey into making a low save at the near post, but Blackie was quickly onto the rebound to slam the ball into the net.

Brighton hit the bar and Povey made a flying save as the relentless pressure continues but, two minutes from the end, Kate Natkiel added the sixth and final goal for Brighton.

C&K Basildon: Povey, Blowers, Stimson, Stephanou, Lacey, Rushen (Long), Little, Huggins (Wakefield), Rodney (Goss), Mellors and Nash.
