HULLBRIDGE Sports Sunday seconds edged out Mornington reserves to lift the Sceptre League Division Four County Cup final on penalties.

Sports won 5-4 in a thrilling game that ended 2-2 at Bowers & Pitsea’s Len Salmon Stadium, although it looked as though they had blown it after surrendering a two-goal lead.

Sports went 1-0 up on 16 minutes when Hullbridge captain Tom Mead was tripped in the area after a driving run on goal, with the same man converting to put Sports into an early lead.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 when a similar run led to a one-on-one and his contact with Paul Enfield resulted in another penalty. This time Dan Paveley stepped up and had the same result with him converting the penalty.

With Hullbridge 2-0 up on 19 minutes things looked good, but on 39 minutes Mornington Reserves pulled a goal back when Jack Dullee struck home.

After the break Mornington started to get the better of Sports and they equalised when Jack Johnson found the net.

The match went straight to penalties and Mead, Dan Paveley, Pete Jelley, Bobby Baker and finally Enfield found the net after a flying save by Sports goalkeeper Adam Fellows had made a tremendous save from Max Whitehead to ensure the victory.
