SOUTHEND High School for Boys’ Year 10 football team has continued its hugely impressive relationship with the Essex Cup as they lifted the trophy for the third time in four years.

The team won the Robert Cook Under-15s Cup at Dagenham & Redbridge’s Victoria Road ground last week, beating Emerson Park 4-1 in the final.

Jack Lelliott scored a brace and there were also goals from Fred Barton and Aaron Wong in the victory, having beaten William Edwards, Heathcote, Burnt Mill and Brentwood School on their way to the final.

The result continues the groups’ success in Essex cup competitions in recent times, with the only match the boys have lost in the tournament in the last four years last year’s showpiece against St Bonaventure’s Catholic Comprehensive School on penalties.

The team had beaten Harris Academy and All Saints Catholic School in previous years and Southend High Head of PE Steve Thomas said the record is an incredibly impressive one.

“It is a truly excellent set of results over four years,” he said. “It is a record that will take some equalling or beating, especially in a county as strong at football as Essex

“SHSB is very proud of the boys and congratulations to the parents who are always very supportive of their sons’ efforts in school.”
