SOUTH Essex Gymnastic Club duo Brinn Bevan and Jay Thompson will both be in action for Great Britain at the World Cup in Bulgaria this weekend.

The duo are working their way back to full fitness after injury setbacks.

And coach Scott Hann sees their latest international call-ups as another big step forward in their rehabilitation.

“This weekend is going to be great for them both,” said Hann.

“Brinn will taking part on five apparatus and will be hoping to put himself in to contention for the European Championships which take place in a couple of weeks.

“This will also be the first time he’s vaulted since suffering the broken leg so it’s a big deal for him.

“Long term the goal remains the Olympics for him and he will be hoping to show the progress he’s making by performing well this weekend.”

Bevan helped Great Britain win a silver medal in the team final at the World Championships last year before he suffered a broken leg while vaulting last November.

Bevan, a former Deanes School pupil, has worked tirelessly to regain fitness and so too has Thompson.

The youngster is fighting back from an Achilles problem having previously also suffered an elbow injury.

And he will also be eager to impress in Bulgaria.

“Jay has done tremendously well to get back fit and will be keen to do well,” said Hann.

“There are a few of these World Cup events and in the last one he made a slight mistake in the pommel final.

“He will be looking to improve on that in Bulgaria but it’s a high-quality event with a number of top gymnasts taking part.

“It’s another test for Brinn and Jay but it’s one they’re looking forward to.”
