BRINN Bevan is bidding to be fully fit for the final Olympic trial which takes place at the beginning of the July.

Bevan and his South Essex Gymnastics Club team-mate Jay Thompson both impressed for Great Britain at the World Cup in Bulgaria at the weekend.

And their coach Scott Hann insists they are now determined to build on their displays.

“They were both fantastic and I’m really pleased,” said Hann.

“It was the first time Brinn had vaulted since suffering his broken leg and he did a great job.

“He made a couple of silly mistakes during the competition but that was mainly down to his lack of preparation caused by the injury.

“But the plan for Brinn is for him to now get fully fit for the final Olympic qualifier, which is the London Open.

“We know we’re cutting it fine but we’ll do everything we can for him to try and get in the squad for Rio.”

Bevan was part of the Great Britain team which won silver at the World Championships last October.

But just a month later he suffered a double leg break while vaulting.

However, another of his South Essex Gymnastics Club colleagues, Max Whitlock, remains a real medal prospect for the Rio Olympics.

And the 23-year-old has been selected in the Great Britain squad for the European Championships which are being held in Switzerland later this month.
