THOUSANDS of supporters turned out to attend the Essex County Girls Football League finals day.

The rain stayed away for the finals, held at the Ford Sports & Social Club, in Basildon, on Sunday with the winners awarded with medals and trophies for their efforts.

In the Under-10 League Cup, it was AFC Leyton who got the better of Canvey’s Island Girls. Rayleigh Girls won the Under-10 Presidents Cup against Colebrook Royals, although the Royal did win the Under-11 Presidents Cup against Island Girls.

Tigers Black beat AFC Leyton in the final of the Under-11 League Cup.

In the Under-12 age group, West Ham United were 4-0 winners over Frontiers Youth in the League Cup, with St Clere’s edging out Braintree Town 3-2 after extra-time in the Presidents Cup.

St Clere’s were also winners of the League Cup in the Under-13s category, as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1, with Billericay Girls beating Island Girls 4-0 to win the Presidents Cup.

Forest Glade Blues beat Cana Diamonds 3-2 in the Under-14 Presidents Cup, with Little Thurrock Dynamos losing out 2-0 in the Under-15s showpiece to Colebrook Royals.

Leigh Ramblers were beaten 3-0 by the Tigers in the Under-16 Presidents Cup, and it was also defeat for Benfleet Villa. Beaten 5-0 by Harlow Town in the same cup competition.

And league chairman Kim Farmer said a terrific day was had by all.

“It went really well,” he said. “There were a good couple of thousand there and they all enjoyed what was a very successful finals day.

“The girls played in a number of well-fought finals and they can all be very proud of their efforts. They all contributed to a fantastic day.

“And the weather was even nice so that was a bonus.”
