TWO amateur sides helped raise almost £1,500 for a children’s charity as they took to the field at Roots Hall.

Pitsea Athletic and LPA South and Parkway Sports played at the home of Southend United to raise funds for The Dream Factory, which helps young people up to the age of 25 with life limiting or life threatening conditions realise their dreams.

Pitsea, who were crowned league champions in the Sceptre Sunday Football League Division Four recently, ran out 9-0 winners on what was a one-sided, albeit enjoyable affair with the goals coming from Dave Newcomb (two), Steve Butler (two), Ricky Brodie, Mitchell Watson, Chris Tapp, Jack Feltham and Matt Baker.

And a fine total of £1,400 was raised come the end of the match, much to the delight of Pitsea Athletic manager, and goal scorer, Tapp and the 163 spectators.

"It was such a great day and can't thank everyone enough for coming out to support the event and to everyone that helped make this event a success,” said Tapp. “We made £1400, achieving £400 over our target and we hope it can really make a difference and grant a child their dream.

“My niece is disabled and the Dream Factory charity granted her wish which was to go to Disneyland Paris so I am more than happy to arrange a charity match and return the favour. “The match its self was a bit one-sided but I can't take anything away from my side as they were awesome on the day and put in one of our best performances of the season."

The club thanked Susan Watts (Rebel Sports Photography), Film My Match and Roger and Oliver at Recycle Print & Design for doing the match day programmes.
