51 matches over four weeks of competition, but just one winner. One team will take glory in France this summer but one local school will also be crowned champions in the Echo’s predictions competitions. Six schools will take on each other and the Echo sports desk over the next four weeks, with each school assigned a group to predict and all predicting the knock-out matches.

But who will be the winner?

With Portugal seemingly the strongest in Group F, the pupils at William Read Primary School arguably have the hardest group to predict with minnows Austria, Iceland and Hungary looking to make their mark on the international stage. But who will make it through?

Here is what Ben C, Jed, Charlie, Ben H and Kasper had to say.

EchoSport reporter Luke: How do you think this group is going to go guys?

Ben C: Iceland will give it a good go I think but I think Portugal will be the team to beat.

Kasper: Yeah, they have Nani and (Ricardo) Quaresma.

Charlie: Iceland or Austria will come second.

Ben H: I agree, Hungary are rubbish.

Ben C: Austria have (David) Alaba (of Bayern Munich) and he is good defensively and going forward so they have a chance.

Jed: (Cristiano) Ronaldo will be important for Portugal although he is getting old now. He isn’t as fast as before.

Ben H: Portugal are a one-man team. Ronaldo is better at Real Madrid as he has better team-mates there. He can’t rely on the Portugal team as much.

Ben C: Austria have a Premier League winning defender (Christian Fuchs) so they will be second favourites to progress I think.

Luke: What about the other contenders to win the competition?

Kasper: France will be strong but they have no (Karim) Benzema or (Alexandre) Lacazette or (Raphael) Varane and they are key players.

Charlie: I don’t fancy Spain, they are all getting pretty old now.

Jed: I think Turkey might do well as under-dogs, they played well against England recently.

Luke: It has been 20 years since Gareth Southgate’s agonising penalty miss in Euro 96, so can England finally show the rest of the world what they are capable of in a major championship?

Kasper: England have a chance.

Ben C: (Wayne) Rooney has been playing well for Man United and we have really good strikers so we can goals against anyone.

Charlie: I think we could go under the radar as teams like Germany will be expected to do well and people might not know about us.

Jasper: It has been our best chance in a while.

Ben C: At the end of the day you can’t predict football anyway, it is like the weather so who know what will happen.

Luke: Ok, thanks!

The scoring: We have asked Great Berry Primary School, Whitmore Primary School, Hadleigh Junior School and William Read Primary School to join 2014 World Cup prediction winners Holt Farm Junior School and Rayleigh Primary School in this year’s Euro 2016 competition.

Schools will be given three points for predicting the correct score line and one for the correct result. So who will come out on top this time?
