DANNY Newth takes to the ring tonight for what he's calling his biggest fight when he takes on Kerstin Brown.

The Southend boxer will face Brown in Malta for the FBP international lightweight title in front of an expected crowd of 6,000 fight fans.

And coach Giles Carter believes Newth has the ammunition to beat the man nicknamed The Bullet.

"Danny is definitely in the best shape of his life and we have trained him for the knockout rather than going for the points," said Carter.

"He has won five out of five and he has knocked out the last four fighters on the trot.

"Brown is the local hero and this is the main show in Malta in the national football stadium, but Danny is in good shape for the fight."

As part of his training for tonight's fight, which is over six three-minute rounds, Newth has been sparring in the gym at Southend Combat Academy and running up the steps near the cliffs lift on Southend seafront.

Brown is unbeaten in his four pro fights

And the former Southend ABC fighter will make a swift return to the ring when he defends his Zero Tolerance British lightweight crown on July 16.

Newth one the crown in April by defeating Shaun Barnfather and will make his first defence of the title against unbeaten Newcastle brawler Owen Lyons at Southend's Zero 6 club.
