BOYCE Hill Golf Club raised £16,000 for local charities at its annual charity day, the biggest event in the club’s calendar.

Havens Hospices, Little Havens and St Luke’s Hospice were the beneficiaries as 164 players, competed in 41 teams of four, took to the greens.

Supported by former West Ham striker Martin Britt, who helps organise the event with his wife Chris and also competes each year, played in a team with Boyce Hill's professional Graham Burroughs.

In first place with an incredible 93 points was Andy Harding, while Dave Briffaut. Ross Surridge and Dodge Toomey received a Titleist Sta-Dry golf bag each.

In second was Stuart McGown, Alex McGown, Tony King and Alex Wright (90 points) who won four pairs of Footjoy DNA shoes ahead of Joe Thomas, Chris Andrews, Graeme Ravey and Max Thomas.

Alex McGown and Tommy Lodge took the nearest the pin award, and Ryan Downs the nearest the line award.

The club has now raised a total of £496,000 for charity.

Elsewhere, it was the Garon Park men’s Club Championship, with Stephen Pickford winning the Championship Bowl.

Russ Brown won the Garon Trophy for handicaps 11-15, Bryan Bone took the Alex Steel Trophy for handicaps 17+ and the winner of the Howard Gipson Memorial Trophy was Stuart Craven.

Barry Fogg won the men’s Friday stableford on countback from Ron Woodroof while, in the senior’s Summer Order of Merit No. 7. Martin Songhurst won from Mike Bardy.

Sally Newman-Russell and Carol Crowhurst won the Garon Park ladies club round of the England Golf Ping 4 Ball Better Ball competition, with their names going forward for the regional round in September.

Lucille Palmer-Moth (team captain) and the Ladies’ Silver Team beat Bentley 3-2 and Liz Cooper is the 2016 Par 3 Match Play trophy winner, clinching the win on the 17th hole in the final.

As for Thorpe Hall Golf Club, a large field of 55 competed in the June Medal with Ian Holdsworth (6) winning in Division 1 and Ray Waterman in Division Two.

Thorpe Hall’s challenge in the Thornton Cup Plate competition ended at the hands of Abridge, as they fielded a below strength team.
