A LEIGH-ON-SEA school is celebrating after a stellar year saw them scoop four trophies.

Fairways Primary School won the Southend Primary Schools Football Association Group 3 league, winning all five matches and scoring 48 goals, the six-a-side Turner Trophy, the seven-a-side Southend School Sports Partnership and the 'Champion of Champions' Final at Southend United’s Roots Hall stadium.

The team of Vincent Clarke, Rubén Vapiwala, William Witts, Owen Rickell, Mason King, Oli Pollard, James O'Brien and Tommy Cooney were in stunning form across the four competitions, and reached the semi-finals of the prestigious seven-a-side Essex Competition.

Their crowning glory was the victory in the ‘Champion of Champions’ event, defeating fellow Leigh school Lady of Lourdes 4-0 in the final.

Teacher Simon Joyce and PE instructor Greg Barker instructed the team throughout the season and Mr Joyce admitted it was a fantastic effort from the boys.

“It was a brilliant effort in what was a long season,” said Mr Joyce. “The boys can be very proud of their efforts and they put the England national team to shame with their commitment, team spirit and attacking football.”
