SOUTH Essex Gymnastic Club’s head coach Scott Hann believes Brinn Bevan fully deserves an Olympic call up.

Bevan confirmed his return to full fitness with a fantastic performance at the London Open last weekend.

And Hann now feels Bevan - who broke his leg in two places last November - should be included alongside Max Whitlock in Great Britain’s five man squad for Rio.

“Brinn was breathtaking at the weekend and in my opinion he deserves to go to Rio now,” said Hann.

“He couldn’t have done any more and for him to come back like he has from the injury he suffered is just fantastic.

“From the moment he suffered the setback he has done absolutely everything I’ve asked of him and I really couldn’t be any prouder of him.

“He’s done brilliantly and the fact he was in the World Championships squad last year puts another big tick in his box.”

Bevan, a former Deanes School pupil, finished fourth in the all around final with 88.200 points.

But it was his team-mate Whitlock who triumphed with 91.200 points to leave Hann delighted.

“Max performed very well but he’s not at top form yet because we’re preparing for that to happen in Rio,” said Hann.

“We still have one or two areas we need to smooth out but he did well at the weekend and confirmed his position at the top of the rankings.”

Whitlock - who won two bronze medals at the London 2012 Games - will certainly be included in the Britain squad when it is announced on Tuesday July 12.

Bevan will also be hoping to join him but Reiss Beckford will not be going to Rio after Jamaica did not continue their request for him to compete.
