STUART Bingham battle back from the brink of defeat to progress into the second round of the World Open.

The Bowers Gifford potter saw off the challenge of Stuart Carrington, taking the final frame to win 5-4 and set up a match against either Ali Carter or Mike Dunn.

Bingham, ranked three for the event, took the first frame but lost the next three to put his progress in real doubt.

He made the highest break of the match, 75, to reduce arrears before drawing level, although Carrington then moved 4-3 ahead and to within a frame of victory.

But Bingham took the final two to progress in Yushan, with his next match on Wednesday morning.
