STUART Bingham’s wretched record against Ali Carter continued as he was beaten in the second round of the World Open in China.
The 40-year-old from Bowers Gifford lost 5-3 to fellow Essex man Carter in Yushan, his 16th defeat in the last 17 encounters between the two.
The last defeat came at the World Championship with Bingham looking to avenge that defeat and he got off to a good start.
He took an early lead in the match, with breaks of 77 and 51 putting him into a two frame lead with Carter only having scored two points.
But he came back strongly to move into a 3-2 lead, with breaks of 91 and 71.
Bingham levelled an edgy sixth frame, but Carter took charge in the final two frames to book his place in round three.
Bingham will return to action in the Paul Hunter Classic on Saturday, August 27 where he will take on Southend’s Sydney Wilson.
