TALENTED teenage diving duo Connor Van Dal and Tyler Humphreys have continued their rise to stardom with two medals apiece at the Mediterranean Games Diving Championships.

Held in Bolzano, in Italy, the pair from Southend Diving were selected to represent England after a host of stellar performances this year, with club coach Charles Calvert appointed as one of the England team coaches.

Both had memorable seasons, with Connor bouncing back from injury after winning a silver medal at the Junior Elite diving championships earlier this year.

While Tyler was the youngest competitor to make the men’s 3m final at the National Cup and was named double national champion on the 1m and 3m springboard as well as the 7 Nations champion on the 3m springboard.

And both excelled, with Connor winning gold in the 3m platform in Italy and silver in the 1m event, his first platform event in more than 12 months.

Not to be outdone, Tyler, 13, also brought home two medals, picking up silver in the 1m and 3m competitions to add to his tally of medals for the year.

This came after just five weeks of practice, following a nasty injury which saw Tyler knock himself out on the 3m board in May.

“Connor and Tyler now have a week of rest and recovery before they will undertake their boot camp of pre-season training,” said Calvert. “This will be four months of hard conditioning, and technical training as they look to improve on this season.”
